An open space planning studio introduced Donna to the macro level of design. The greenway landscape and the west coast seascape that supports the community of Campbell River is becoming increasingly subjected to the pressures of urban development. In a mandate to create a community that maintained the District’s watersheds in order to provide clean air, clean land and clean water, Campbell River requested input from the University of British Columbia Landscape Architecture students. Donna contributed to this studio by providing her knowledge of universal design and incorporating the principles in the design of the greenway. As a note: greenways may be used as recreational corridors for people, movement corridors for wildlife and alternate forms of transportation (bicycles), and special management zones for sensitive ecological habitats. Check out Donna’s power point presentation at this website entitled Ribbon of Green; Edge of Blue.
